A quick reference for terms you'll see across FARMIS, plus a Tok Pisin walkthrough of the most common actions.
Glossary
| Term | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Advisory | A set of crop recommendations broken down by stage — land prep, planting, weeding, fertilising, pest control, harvest. |
| APK | The Android installer file. FARMIS is distributed as an APK from the FARMIS download page. |
| Bookmark / Save | Mark an entry (crop, pest, article) so it works offline and shows up in your Saved list. |
| Cash crop | A crop grown primarily to sell — for example coffee, cocoa, vanilla. |
| Dashboard | The home screen you see after signing in. Shortcuts to every feature live here. |
| Extension officer | A government or NGO agricultural advisor who works with farmers in the field. |
| OTP | One-Time Password — the SMS code you enter when registering or resetting your PIN. |
| PIN | A short numeric code you set during sign-up. You use it together with your phone number to sign in. |
| Saved crop | A crop you have added to your farm, with its planting date and area, so FARMIS can give you stage-by-stage advice. |
| Staple | A core food crop — for example sweet potato (kaukau), taro, cassava, banana, yam. |
| Stage | A phase of crop growth (e.g. Planting, Growth, Pre-harvest) used to organise advice. |
| Sync | Background process where the app sends drafted posts and pulls the latest content when internet is available. |
| Tok Pisin | One of PNG's national languages, supported alongside English in FARMIS. |
Quick start in Tok Pisin
