About
Turmeric is closely related to ginger and grown in a similar way in PNG. The bright orange-yellow rhizomes are used as a spice, food colouring, and traditional medicine. Turmeric grows well in lowland and mid-altitude areas with partial shade and is valued for its powerful anti-inflammatory compound curcumin.
Health Benefits
Contains curcumin, one of the most studied natural anti-inflammatory compounds. Strong antioxidant properties. Used traditionally for joint pain, digestive issues, skin conditions, and wound healing. Supports liver function.
Market Requirements
Fresh rhizomes should be firm and bright orange inside. Dried turmeric must be properly cured and dried. Powder should be fine, bright yellow-orange, and aromatic.
