About
Choko is a vigorous climbing vine widely grown in PNG highland gardens. It produces pear-shaped green fruit that is a popular cooking vegetable. The vine also provides edible young shoots (tips) and leaves. Choko is extremely productive and virtually pest-free, making it one of the easiest vegetables to grow in the highlands.
Health Benefits
Low calorie, good source of vitamin C, folate, and dietary fibre. Young shoots are rich in vitamins and minerals. Very easy to digest. Good potassium source.
Market Requirements
Fruit should be firm, pale green, and medium-sized (150-300g). No splits or soft spots. Young shoots bundled fresh for market.
