About

Cassava (tapioka) is a drought-tolerant root crop widely grown in PNG lowlands. It produces starchy tuberous roots that serve as a major carbohydrate source. The crop is valued for its ability to grow in poor soils and withstand dry conditions.

Health Benefits

High in carbohydrates and calories for energy. Provides vitamin C, thiamin, riboflavin, and niacin. Good source of resistant starch when cooked and cooled. Leaves are rich in protein and vitamins when properly prepared.

Market Requirements

Roots should be firm, undamaged, and fresh. Sell within 2-3 days of harvest as cassava deteriorates quickly. Remove soil but do not wash. Bundle with stems for freshness indicator.
