About

Capsicum (bell pepper) is a popular vegetable in PNG grown for its sweet, crisp fruit. It grows well in both lowland and highland areas and is highly valued at local markets and by restaurants. Fruit can be harvested green or left to ripen to red, yellow, or orange for higher prices.

Health Benefits

Extremely rich in vitamin C (one fruit provides 150% daily needs), vitamin A, vitamin B6, and folate. Red capsicums have the highest antioxidant content. Good source of potassium and fibre.

Market Requirements

Fruit should be firm, glossy, and free of blemishes or sunburn. Uniform colour preferred. Handle gently to avoid bruising.
